Kneil flies out of town a lot for work; usually gone for three weeks and home for two. During the month of September however, he was home a total of about 3 days. When he flew back into town on September 12th, I got a night with him, then took him to the airport the next morning. This time he flew out though, it wasn't for work.
His friend John was getting married and Kneil was the wedding officiator. He even got a certification online through the American Fellowship Church (unfortunately, Virginia law states that the Minister must have an actual congregation for it to be valid). So although he was certified, he couldn't get licensed in Virginia. His friend was fine with it as they weren't expecting it to be official anyway. So, my husband went out a few days early to get stuff ready and on Friday or Saturday (I can't remember) September 16th or 17th, Kneil performed a wedding. The theme was a Tribute to Horror Movies and the script that Kneil was given included the True Wuv speech from Princess Bride. As I was not there, I only have Kneil's assurance that it was awesome. I'm still waiting for a video.
The following Wednesday, I flew out to Charlottesville, Virginia to meet up with Kneil and spend some time with my awesome in-laws. The night I got in, we had a mini Thanksgiving, with turkey, cranberry sauce, potatoes, green beans, beets and rolls and for dessert there was a butterscotch thing that was REALLY, REALLY good.
The next morning we drove down to Nags Head, North Carolina to spend the rest of our trip. We stayed in Kill Devil Hills (which is the coolest name ever), close to the beach and a bunch of shopping. The food down there was absolutely amazing; I love seafood and fresh seafood is even better. We went to see the Bodie Lighthouse, the Maritime Museum (which was closed due to damage from Irene), lots and lots of shopping, the historic waterfront in Manteo and lots more. I wanted to do one of the wild horse tours, but the one downfall to the timing of our trip was that it rained everyday but the last. Kneil did a hang gliding course and got to hang glide off the dunes at Jockey's Ridge State Park. His parents and I were actually able to sit outside an ice cream shop right across the road and watch.
Speaking of flying, we also went to the Wright Brothers National Memorial which was really cool. They have a life size representation of their glider and powered flyer. It was really neat. On our last day before we left, since it was semi-blue skies and no rain, we walked over to the beach and were able to walk in the surf and I collected lots of shells. The current plan is to make jewelry with some and figure out the rest later. I actually found a Horseshoe Crab shell too!
Now speaking of Horseshoe Crabs, we went to the aquarium as well and I got to pet Stingrays (which I do at our aquarium all the time), little sharks, a Horseshoe Crab and we got to watch a program with divers in the 55,000 gallon shark tank. That was cool; they even had to get the divers out sooner than planned because the sharks were getting excited.
Back to the last day, after the beach, we went to the ice cream shop (it had been closed the day we sat in front of it) to get the ice cream we had wanted before and it was homemade and yummy. Then kneil and I walked across the road to Jockey's Ridge and walked through the dunes. That was quite the exercise and I could definitely feel it a little later. After that, we grabbed lunch and then drove back to Virginia.
We had a great breakfast and flew out the next day. We're definitely going next year again.

P.S. No pics yet, although I should have them in a couple days, so they'll be posted later.
